Betty Jane Thomas Acker
AGE: 84 FAIR HAVEN Betty Jane Thomas Acker, age 84, born in East Orange, NJ, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend has left us on Monday, July 27, 2009. Betty has gone to join her parents, William and Anne Thomas; her brother, William Thomas and her beloved husband of 50 plus years of marriage, James R. Acker, Sr.

She is survived by her children, Sharon and her husband Michael Cassady, William and his wife Helen Acker, Cynthia and her husband Frank Mazza, Suzanne and her husband Joe Spernal, all of Fair Haven; a daughter, BJ Acker-Hitta and her husband Jean-Luc Hitta of San Francisco, CA and a son James Acker. Betty has left her loving sisters, Audrey Rush, Barbara Thomas, Jacqueline Giglio, Miriam Bonforte, Natalie Coppola, Carol Thomas and Judith Strollo. Betty had 17 loving grandchildren, along with many nieces and nephews.

Betty was a member of the Fair Haven Fire Department, Ladies Auxiliary for 52 years where she also held the position of Secretary, Treasurer, Vice President and President. Betty worked for Bell Telephone Company and also worked at Fort Monmouth during WW II. She continued to inspire all thru her devotion to community service, while serving as a Crossing Guard for the Borough of Fair Haven. Family and friends were inspired with her abilities to gift with her artwork, poetry and children's stories. She will be deeply missed by her family and friends. A memorial gathering will be conducted at the Thompson Memorial Home, 310 Broad St., Red Bank on Saturday, August 1, 2009 from 4:00-7:00 PM with the Ladies Auxiliary Service beginning at 6:15.
